Reading a row
Every column, dot, and flash on a scanner row, in plain English.
Overview
All three panels share the same row shape. Whatever you learn about a column on Top Gainers applies to the same column on HOD and Running Up. The visual language is consistent on purpose so you do not switch mental models between panels.
Rows update in place rather than redrawing the panel. New alerts prepend to the top so the latest fire is always at eye level.
How it works
Each row binds to a ticker live state. As ticks arrive, the scanner patches only the fields that changed; the panel never blanks out between updates. Sort, filter, and prepend behaviors apply over the same live state.
Reference
Columns
- Symbol. The ticker. Clicking opens the catalyst panel for that name.
- Last. Most recent print from the consolidated tape.
- Chg %. Percent change vs the prior session close.
- RVol. Today's cumulative volume divided by the 10-day average of full daily volumes.
- Volume. Today's cumulative share volume.
- Float. SEC-verified tradeable float. Hover for the source filing and date.
- CAT. Catalyst dot; gold when news for that ticker landed inside the catalyst window.
Dots
- CAT, gold. At least one Benzinga headline landed for this ticker since the prior trading day's close (16:00 ET).
- CAT, dark. No headlines inside that window.
Flashes & counts
- Gold flash. Fires briefly on a fresh HOD or Running Up alert, then fades back to the panel's default style.
- Count badge. Appears on rows that have re-fired the same alert (×2, ×3). The badge replaces a second flash so the panel does not strobe on choppy tape.
Prepend behavior
New alerts prepend to the top of their panel. Existing rows shift down. Sort applies only to Top Gainers; HOD and Running Up are always chronological with the latest fire on top.
